OPEN CALL – Women’s Eye

We are excited to announce an international open call for photographers who identify as women or belong to marginalized genders. Women’s Eye is a platform dedicated to showcasing diverse female perspectives through the lens of photography. This call seeks to highlight how women observe, interpret, and represent the world through photography — with their own voices, bodies, memories, and lived experiences. We are interested in how female perspectives shape not only what is seen, but how it is seen. This single image open call gives the opportunity for 20 photographers to participate in a highlighted outdoor exhibition of Budapest Photo Festival.
This may include — but is not limited to:
Personal narratives: stories of identity, family, intimacy, motherhood, aging, friendship, solitude, or self-representation.
Political and social themes: works addressing gender, power, visibility, activism, feminism, oppression, freedom, or collective memory.
Cultural and community-based views: how women live, move, and create within different social or geographic contexts.
Sensory and poetic approaches: work that captures vulnerability, emotion, silence, or resistance through form and mood.
We welcome both directly feminist works and more subtle, intuitive, or symbolic explorations. The “female gaze” may manifest through subject matter, composition, tone, or simply in the act of seeing — through a woman’s eyes.
We are not looking for a single definition of what it means to be a woman or to see as one. Rather, we invite complexity, contradiction, and multiplicity.
Selected works will be:
Featured in our upcoming exhibition as a highlighted event of Budapest Photo Festival
Included in our printed catalogue and promoted via our social channels and newsletter.
Who can apply:
Women and gender-diverse photographers of all backgrounds and experience levels.
Submissions are welcome from any photographic genre or style — including documentary, fine art, fashion, conceptual, street, portrait, experimental, analog, or digital.
The only requirement: your work should reflect a woman’s point of view — through subject, approach, narrative, or authorship.
What to submit:
Send your submission in one email:
– Single images, maximum of 5 pictures, maximum 3 mega sized, jpg format.
– A short artist statement (max. 250 words) and a short bio with IG account (max. 150 words) in one pdf.
One artist allowed to send only one submission.
Entry fee: 6000 HUF (15 Euro) / submission. With this amount you donate Budapest Photo Festival and help our work.
